Wizard of Oz: Postmodern and SciFi

Post Modern Wizard of OzI haven’t heard too much buzz about this, but CNN reports on an adaptation of the Wizard of Oz, called “Tin Man” [CNN: "A darker view of the Wizard of Oz"].  Dorothy, played by Zooey Deschanel, describes it as “postmodern, more like Indiana Jones than a fairy tale”.  Hmm, it looks crazy and creepy - although I guess a “shadowy, retro-futuristic Oz” is no creepier than a technicolored surreal world with munchkins running around singing.  Ok, they won me over.  Or at least have kept me intrigued, especially given the cast:  Alan Cumming plays the Scarecrow, Neil McDonough (he was great in Band of Brothers) plays the Tin Man, and  Kathleen Robertson (can’t say I know her, but perhaps others know as “Clare” from 90210?) plays the evil witch.  It’s a three-part mini-series that starts this Sunday at 10pm on the sci-fi network.  Please report in if you watch it!

Here’s a link to the official Tin Man website.
